"Buried Treasure" - added 04-sept-2002

Bah. Dacia beat me to this rec, but since I already had it written out, and since it really is a great story, I'm still rec'ing it.

This is a great action/adventure fic. Quatre and Wufei are kidnapped by a psychopath, who then contacts the other pilots to set up a "game" they must play to retrieve their companions.

If three-some fics normally scare you away, don't let it this time. There is very little in the way of 1x2x5 shown here, save in a couple of short flashbacks - this story focuses more on plot than sex. Don't get me wrong - it's clear that all the pilots care about each other, and that there are sexual relationships amongst them, it's just that the workings of such a relationship aren't necessary to the plot, so they aren't shown, really.

Some of the things I really liked: 1) Duo is shown as a very clever but still mature young man. There's no bouncing idiocy here. He's still a joker, but it's a more mature sort of humour. I just love that. And he's good with all things mechanical - I find that very hot *grin*. 2) The setting. I can't really give specifics as it ruins the surprise, but it's an American setting after a nuclear type accident. Think "The Dead Zone" by Stephen King. 3) Poetry. Towards the end of the story, a poetry game is introduced, first to keep tired/injured pilots awake, and later to allow some deeper, harder to vocalize feelings to come to the surface. The poems Windsor Blue chooses are very cool, very adult, and very appropriate, and in the last instance of the game, sort of tug on the hearstrings as well.

There are references to other fics Windsor's written in this story, though I believe the only two directly related to the story are "Fish Tacos" and "Cupcake"

"Big Man With a Gun" - added 04-sept-2002

I have to admit that I rarely read the song text in song fics - I find them distracting, and usually they don't fit with the story all that well. "Big Man With a Gun", however, fits this story perfectly, and the lyrics need to be read to get the full effect of the story.

While on a simple mission to destroy a base, Duo comes across something that he never thought he'd find on earth, and it sends him into a red rage.

Windsor uses parts from the Book of Revelations to great effect, having Duo quote them in his anger - it gave me chills to read. She also discusses, through Duo, some of the less pleasant aspects of Renaissance-era Italian frescoes. It got me interested enough to look up the frescoes after I was finished with the fic.

"Alternate Dualities" 09-oct-2005

During a Preventer mission to secure a black hole generator, something goes terribly wrong and Duo is thrown into a series of alternate universes.  Not only are the worlds he's thrown into not like his own, neither are the relationships he has with his comrades (much to his consternation in some parts!)  Each world he's thrown into gives him some sort of problem to work out, all (so far) somehow revolving around this black hole generator.  The lemons are great, Duo is very well written, there is humor, angst, you name it.  There is also some pretty cool and creative science going on as well.  WingNut has come up with a rather interesting sickness related to the Zero System....
