"A Guide to Better Hugging" - added 21-march-2002

Don't let the title fool you - it's not fluffy or tacky at all.  This is a wonderful fic from Duo's POV, telling how he went about loosening Heero up to accept hugs, and how those hugs eventually lead to something more fulfilling.  There is a lot of humor in here, Duo style, but it's not out of place at all - no humor just because the author thought some should be inserted, but there because it fit the setting.  Duo "stalks" Heero while trying to hug him, as well as gives himself a set of rules to follow so things don't get out of hand.  Unfortunately, his brain and body apparently don't communicate well sometimes and he loses sight of those rules <grin>.

The lemon in here is extremely hot, and very well done.  It's a first time for Heero, and Sameshima handles it like a first time would be - with Heero scared and in pain but eager, and Duo is very sweet with him.  Make no mistake, though, Heero is not at all submissive in here, and the sex is not gentle and slow.

The masturbation scene, while short, is also extremely hot, and Heero's involved in that, too.

If you like this, write to her, people. She's got very little in the way of GW - she needs more!

This is a nice role-reversal get-together type fic.  Duo isn't interested in Heero, but discovers one day that Heero appears to be interested in him.  He decides to see how much teasing it'll take before Heero finally breaks, with some unfortunate results.  Duo learns the hard way not to play with someone's emotions.

I really enjoyed this fic because Duo wasn't portrayed as a hyperactive, jokester little boy, although it may appear that he is in the beginning.  Once Duo's plan becomes evident, it's clear why he's acting the way he is.  Heero is portrayed as cold but still human, an important factor that many fics fail to include.

There is also an extremely hot lemon in here, very well written and drawn out, and thankfully I don't think there's a single mention of the too often used  "neglected erection" in this.

"Conspiracy" - added 20-july-2002

What would have happened if Duo had gotten a mission to kill Heero? Shira runs through this scenario in "Conspiracy".

After New Edwards, a hit has been put out for Heero - OZ plans to execute him as a war criminal to advance their cause. The scientists, however, have other plans and contact Duo. Unfortunately, they don't know Duo as well as they think they do. It's time for Duo to even the scales between himself and Heero.....

This is a wonderful take on the relationship between Treize and Wufei - I don't think I've ever read one like it.  I've certainly read enough 13x5, and for the most part I don't care for them, as I simply cannot see Wufei getting jiggy with Treize out of emotional or sexual need.  s1ncer1ty has a new reason for Wufei to go to Treize, and it's not a happy one.  He comes home a bit worse for the wear after his latest encounter to find Duo waiting for him.  Duo demands an explanation, and once he gets it, some more revelations follow.

Wufei POV.  After months of being apart, Wufei returns to Duo to find him in the throes of a nightmare.  Comfort of the non-hentai kind follows.  Very sweet, sad.  There's no blood, guts or sex, but there is a surprise ending, thus the extra warning.  It's nothing horrid, really, but I don't want to put it in my rec, it'll ruin the surprise!

Don't want to give the pairings/events outright, it'll sort of ruin the story.  Thus the spoiler page for those who need to know.  For all the dismal sounding warnings I put up, I really didn't find this sad, per say.  It's a heartfelt story from Quatre's POV telling about what happens when he realizes his sexuality, gets scared and makes a big mistake.  A year goes by and something happens that forces Quatre to remember his mistake, as well as come to terms with a third party involved in said mistake.  Boy...this is hard to write up without giving away plot..

This is a beautifully written fic.  I do have to say that I never thought I'd read about a certain pairing in here with any enjoyment, but this story proved me wrong.  The reason for the pairing was backed up soundly (which is important in MHO), the writing flowed smoothly throughout.  If you can handle alternate pairings, read this :-)

This is a wonderfully spooky and surreal fic.  The Gundam Boys take some time off from Preventers to go on a road trip.  After some car troubles, however, things go from uncomfortable to downright creepy.  

This is well written and original - Spooks really lives up to her name - she has other spooky tales on her site, too, which is aptly named "Twisted Perspective".  Go, read, now!

"Skin Deep" - added 30-oct-2001

Heero and Trowa must help Duo with an infection he has acquired.  Without giving away too much plot, the critter Duo's having problems with is a real one.  I was lucky enough *shudder* to actually be taking a class that involved learning about creatures like these at the time Stephanie posted this to the mailing lists, so I know it can happen.  SERIOUS squickage here, folks, but 100% possible.  Well written, humorous as well.  There are sequels to this called "Lay Your Hands Gently" and "Moonlight and Spiderwebs" which can be found here.

"And Never the Twain Shall Meet" - added 16-sept-2001 

This is one of my favorite fics.  It's a get together fic between Duo and Heero. With the war looking like it's winding down, Heero comes to the realization that he may have feelings for Duo.  Ever wonder why Heero acts as unemotional as he does?  Well, Steve comes up with a reason for it, backed up with some very realistic sounding science.  Events then occur that put Heero's life in jeopardy.  Can Duo and the others save him?  And if they do, will he ever be the same?

This is an AU - Treize hasn't died.  There are a couple of OC's, one of which will play a main part though the focus is not on him.  The sex is hot and very realistic, and the fic is well balanced with plenty of action, drama, suspense, and humor.  (Heero drunk is too cute...really).  Be forewarned, however.  Steve takes a long time to update - I'm talking years here.  It's worth the read anyway, and ends right now in a spot that's not too bad, should it never be continued.

Sunhawk

"The Road Trip" series - added 24-nov-2001 02-april-2003

Sigh...Now this is the kind of fic I really enjoy.  All the pilots as friends, caring for and about each other.  This is a 1x2 fic arc, primarily, though the others do play a part.  It goes back and forth between 1st person POV with Duo and Heero.

The arc starts out with a car trip/chase scene that's worthy of any movie - it had me at the edge of my seat throughout.  The interaction between Heero and Duo is truly touching.  They are comrades slowly moving towards friendship here - by the time the trip is over, the events they went through will have firmly cemented that friendship as well as started the push towards becoming more.

There are no bastard pilots here - each is very well portrayed as a real, living, breathing person while still carrying that soldier mentality.  Another of the things I really liked about this fic is the fact that Sunhawk included the aftereffects of an injury.  How many times have we read about the pilots suffering from some horrible injury only to heal in a week and be up and away?  Not in this fic.  Injuries are treated as if they occurred in real life - therapy, surgeries, etc.

There is an issue with NCS here, in Duo's past.  Unlike a lot of fics, though, Duo is not reduced to a weak, drooling moron by it.  He does have problems facing it, but he realizes it's a problem and for the most part he's strong despite it.  The way the other pilots deal with this is touching and a bit heartbreaking in parts.

A couple other things I particularly liked about this:  This fic felt much more "war-like" than most fics, and even the series did.  They had camo, drop-off points, helicopters and worked together much like I think a real troop would.  The whole feel of the fic was quite "army" like, and I liked that a great deal.  Sunhawk's also upgraded their weapons.  I always thought it odd in the series that they used handguns and such.  They have space stations and gundams, but don't have laser guns or the equivalent?  Well, in here, they do.  Laser guns, pulse rifles and the armor to withstand those weapons. Also, the use of humor - it's adult humor - none of those stupid, "Duo acts like a 5-year-old-brat" type things so many fics have.  Well, with the exception of Duo trying to dunk Wufei's head in a toilet.  But Wufei deserved it. *grin* And lastly, you can't beat a fic that references songs by Mercedes Lackey, C. J. Cherryh, and Loreena McKennitt.

If you like this, check out her Ion Arc as well - to my knowledge it hasn't been released to any mailing lists, and it's as good as, if not better in my opinion, than "Road Trip".

"A Guy Thing"- added 24-nov-2001

Very original.  Hilde goes on a mission with the 5 boys and discovers that they share a camaraderie that most definitely does not include her.  Rather sad but still very believable.  Not very long.  I personally would like to see Sunhawk continue this, but I don't think it was meant to be continued.
