I don't even know how to explain this without giving away the plot.  When I read the first part, I was angry that this fic was not marked as a deathfic.  However, once I started the second part, I laughed my ass off when I realized where this fic was going.  Don't let the death part bother you - you'll get it soon enough.  While this isn't a humor fic, there is humor in it, and the author did a very good job of plot development.  I was feeling really badly for Heero and his inadequacies in parts of this.

The quick and dirty - Heero must find a way to save his friends and the surrounding area from a rather ...quirky bomb.  As I said, there is humor in here, but there is a great deal more angst.  Heero learns an awful lot about what it means to be human in here.

Bianca

This tells story of Duo meeting Heero in an AU world as lifeguard and trainee.  They eventually become a couple and open a business together.  When Heero makes a suggestion one day that Duo doesn't care for, things head downhill for their relationship.

This fic is written a bit differently from normal.  There are brief statements of what Duo is doing/thinking at a certain time, interspersed with flashbacks that fill in the blanks of the story.  As I said, very different, but very well pulled off, too.  No happy ending here.

I had an extremely hard time deciding which of Bianca's fics to rec - her stories are amazingly well written, almost fluid in spots, and her lemons are hot.  I ended up choosing this one because the setting was different from what you'd normally see in an AU fic.  I highly recommended reading the other fics on her page.

The Black Rose

"Lingering" - added 12-may-2002

Rose's take on the Zero System really pulled me into this story. In "Lingering", Zero has become nearly sentient - frighteningly so. Not only that, but depending on which machine the system is in, the way Zero decides to manipulate its pilot changes. In other words, there is more than one Zero; they've almost become separate identities.

After long exposure to the Zero System in Wing Zero and Epyon, Heero's beginning to have trouble discerning real life from dreams. Why? Zero is using Heero's deepest desires to control him - Wing Zero in one way, Epyon in another, but both involve Relena.

This may sound like a PWP if you look at the lemon warning and then read what I wrote above, but it's not. It's a serious fic with a very plausible explanation of the Zero System. There were points where I really wanted to give poor Heero a hug - he has a rough time of it in here. Never fear, though. Things work out in the end.

Blue Soaring

"Dance with the Demons" - added 30-jan-2002

In this AU, Duo is a monster hunter.  Having been casual acquaintances with Quatre for a few years, he's surprised to find out, after a bizarre call from Quatre, that all's not as it seems.  The "Master" of the monsters has requested his presence, and the Master isn't happy.  After a strange meeting, Duo walks away with more questions than he started with, as well as an unwanted "pet".

Don't let the pairings fool you - this isn't a PWP orgy, there's a reason for the pairings.  Do NOT get turned off by submissive Wufei, he does get a spine, some balls, and a nicely warped sense of humor a few chapters in.  I almost walked away from this fic when I saw how he first was, and I'm so glad I didn't.

The plot is very intriguing, the writing well done and the lemons are hot.
